Starting Kindergarten at Mount Terry Public School
Beginning Kindergarten is an exciting milestone in your child’s learning journey! At Mount Terry Public School, we offer a range of engaging experiences to help make the transition smooth and enjoyable.
Families are invited to join our Principal and Deputy Principal for a school walkthrough, followed by Transition to Kindergarten sessions held the year before students start. These experiences help children feel confident and familiar with our school.
We also celebrate milestones like 100 Days of Kindergarten, creating a nurturing and fun environment where our youngest learners can thrive.
K–2 Easter Hat Parade
Our much-loved K–2 Easter Hat Parade is always a wonderful way to finish Term 1! The excitement builds as students proudly share their creative and colourful Easter hat designs with friends, families and our school community. The smiles are endless as children sing a selection of fun Easter songs and parade their handmade creations for everyone to enjoy.
We also love welcoming our local preschool children to join their siblings and take part in the celebrations, it’s a joyful tradition that brings our school and community together.
Sporting Opportunities
Our swimming, athletics and cross country carnivals are highlights of the school year, celebrating student talent, determination, and sportsmanship. These exciting events provide opportunities for students to achieve personal bests and progress through to higher levels of competition, proudly representing Mount Terry Public School.
Students are also encouraged to trial for a range of PSSA sporting teams, including soccer, cricket, netball, softball and more. We’re proud of our strong sporting tradition, with many Mount Terry students going on to represent at district, regional and state levels.
At Mount Terry, we value participation, teamwork and a love of being active, fostering a supportive and vibrant sporting culture where every student can shine.
P&C Events
The Mount Terry Public School P&C plays a vital role in creating our strong and connected school community. Throughout the year, the P&C organises a range of fun and engaging events that bring families together and support our students.
They proudly manage our canteen and uniform shop and host much-loved activities such as the Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls and picnics. The P&C also runs popular fundraisers including the Easter raffle, pie drives, school discos and many other community events that make school life even more enjoyable.
Their commitment and enthusiasm help fund important school programs and enhance every student’s experience, making Mount Terry Public School a vibrant and welcoming place for all.
Preschool Reading with Mr Hailstone
Once upon a Monday, after the school assembly, a special story time awaits! At 9:15am, gather outside the main office on a cosy picnic blanket with Mr Hailstone. Snuggle in, listen to a magical tale and share a chat with friends. It’s a little adventure to start the week with smiles, giggles and imagination!
We wonder how many preschoolers can fit on the blanket?
Southern Stars
Each year, Mount Terry Public School proudly participates in Southern Stars, one of the largest and most spectacular performing arts events in NSW. This incredible production brings together thousands of public school students to showcase their talents in music, dance and performance.
At Mount Terry, we offer students the opportunity to take part in both choir and dance, providing an exciting and rewarding experience for those who love to perform. Participating in Southern Stars allows our students to build confidence, develop teamwork skills and share their passion for the performing arts on a professional stage, an experience they’ll remember for years to come.
Aboriginal Education
At Mount Terry Public School, we are deeply committed to honouring and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, history and connection to Country. Through a range of meaningful events and programs, we ensure these rich perspectives are an important and valued part of our school life.
Our Aboriginal Education and Reconciliation initiatives include engaging activities and excursions during NAIDOC Week, as well as heartfelt National Sorry Day commemorations. We also embed authentic Aboriginal perspectives across our curriculum, helping students develop a strong sense of respect, understanding and belonging within our school and wider community.
Book Week
Book Week is a much-loved celebration at Mount Terry Public School and a highlight for students, staff and families alike. Throughout the week, we celebrate the joy of reading and the wonderful world of stories. One of the most exciting parts is our Book Week Parade, where students come dressed as their favourite book characters and proudly parade with their class.
Our school community is always encouraged to join the fun and we love seeing parents, carers and younger siblings cheering from the sidelines. Our teachers also get into the spirit, dressing up and sharing the stories that inspire them.
Book Week is a colourful, creative and joyful event that brings our whole school together and celebrates the magic of books.
Science Week
Science Week is an exciting time at Mount Terry Public School, where curiosity, creativity and hands-on learning come to life. As part of our celebrations, each classroom is transformed into a hub of discovery with a range of fun, interactive science activities for students to explore.
During our Open Day, parents and carers are invited to join in the fun, working alongside their children to test ideas, make predictions and enjoy the wonder of scientific thinking. It’s a fantastic opportunity for families to experience the joy of learning together and see our young scientists in action.
Science Week is always a highlight on our calendar, bringing our school community together through exploration, excitement and plenty of “wow” moments!
Education Week
NSW Education Week is a special time for Mount Terry Public School to celebrate teaching, learning and the incredible achievements of our students. Throughout the week, we highlight the many ways our learners grow, create, and succeed, both in and outside the classroom.
It’s also a wonderful opportunity to recognise the dedication of our teachers and staff, who work tirelessly to support, inspire and nurture every child. Our school community plays an important role too and we value the strong partnerships we share with families.
Education Week reminds us of the power of public education and the positive impact it has on the lives of our students every day. Together, we celebrate learning, connection and the bright futures of all our young people.
Walk Safely to School Day
Walk Safely to School Day is a wonderful opportunity for Mount Terry Public School students, families and staff to come together and promote healthy, active travel. On this day, we run several Walking Bus stations at different points in our school community, each led by our dedicated teachers.
Students can join their friends and teachers along the route, enjoying a safe, fun walk to school while learning about road safety, healthy habits and the benefits of being active. It’s always a positive and energetic start to the day, and a great way to strengthen connections within our school community.
Year 6 Opportunities
Year 6 is a memorable and exciting year at Mount Terry Public School, filled with opportunities for students to grow, lead and celebrate their final year of primary school. Our students take on important leadership roles and enjoy special activities such as Year 6 Fun Day, school camp and the always popular Jamberoo excursion.
To finish the year, we celebrate their achievements with a formal Graduation Assembly and Year 6 Farewell, recognising their hard work and marking the beginning of their next chapter.
Year 6 is truly a year of milestones, friendships and unforgettable experiences.
Library Adventures
All students have the chance to visit the library each week, where they can borrow books and dive into the joy of reading. But our library is more than just books, students develop a wide range of skills, from research and creativity to digital storytelling. Using tools like Canva, they can create their own book trailer and they even get hands-on with the popular STEM kits borrowed from the department’s learning library.
And it wouldn’t be complete without Flashlight Friday! Lights go down, cozy cubbies are built and torches light the way for thrilling reading adventures. It’s reading like you’ve never experienced before!
Breakfast Club
Every Thursday morning, our Breakfast Club gives students a bright and healthy start to the day! Served from the canteen, it’s a welcoming space where students can enjoy toast and fresh fruit, kindly donated by local stores. Our dedicated teachers volunteer their time to make sure everyone has the fuel they need for learning, playing and growing.
A nutritious breakfast is essential for concentration, energy and overall wellbeing, and Breakfast Club is the perfect way to start the day right, share smiles with friends and feel ready to take on whatever comes next!
Presentation Day
Our Presentation Day assemblies are a special highlight at Mount Terry Public School, where we come together to celebrate the achievements and hard work of our students. Across these assemblies, we recognise excellence in academics, citizenship, diligence and sporting achievement, acknowledging the many ways our students strive, grow and contribute to our school community.
It is a proud moment for families, teachers and students alike as we reflect on the year’s accomplishments and celebrate the dedication and effort shown by all. Presentation Day is a wonderful reminder of the talent, resilience and spirit of our students.
